Every shed should have some sort of base to keep it away from contact with the damp ground underneath and prevent rot. While it’s possible to make your own from concrete, paving slabs or decking blocks, the easiest way – if your shed dimensions allow it – is to buy a pressure-treated timber bearer base kit. These come in four sizes: 6 x 4, 7 x 5, 7 x 7 and 8 x 6. The manufacturers say the bases can also be used for sheds measuring 4 x 6, 5 x 7 and 6 x 8. The base will be delivered flat-packed. You can either put it together yourself or, if you’re not entirely confident in your DIY skills, choose the professional assembly option when ordering.
